More Finds In My Garden

I found another blooming shrub tucked in a corner of my garden. I don't know what it is. I need to do some research.

Here's a closer look.

And another, even closer look. It has long dangerous looking thorns.

This is probably my favourite succulent. I'm hoping it spreads!
My Cherry Tree Is Blooming

It's a huge tree. You can't really tell here...looking through the branches to the sky.

There are lots of big old limbs. I'm going to need a ladder to get the cherries.

This one is taken from my East facing bedroom window. So many blooms!

Here you can see the roof of my carport in the lower center, my fence, and my neighbour's garage. It gives you a better idea of the size of the tree.

The Greening of My Garden

One of several rhodo bushes in my yard. It will be interesting to see the colours of the others.

I was ready to rip this plant out thinking it's broom but I've learned that it's not, so it stays.

These are growing in what is just a crack in the cement.

I don't know what this is but green flowers are so cool.

One of three peony bushes that's coming along. Also bleeding hearts plant.
Here's a bit of a peak at my new floor in my bedroom. I'll need to do another photo now that the room has been painted too.

The puppies inspect the new floor. Installed but no finish on it yet.

Another beautiful sunset!

Thursday, March 26, 2009

Progress is being made in my loft bedroom. First the carpeting was ripped out leaving these antique tiles revealed.

Then I ordered and picked up the flooring material from a local mill.

The installer arrived early this morning and....the puppies are inspecting the completed floor this evening.

It looks a little like a bowling alley in there but there is plenty of space for a king size bed beyond the railing to the right. There's another half of the room that isn't in the photo.

Puppies have seen enough and are heading down the stair.

The installer is back tomorrow to sand it and put the first coat of the finish on.

Early March, flowers started showing up in my garden.

This is my beautiful and functional compost bin. I need to do some work here.

Herb garden residents. More work to be done here.

The deck off of my living room...and it's south/west facing and gets lots of sun. I'm thinking about an awning.

I'm looking forward to seeing what grows on the vine on the arbour.

It was a cloudy rainy day but at the end, the sun broke through for a bit, creating such a beautiful sky. I'm also noticing how much further north the sun is rising and setting.

Saturday, March 14, 2009

The setting of the sun was so interesting today. I ran upstairs to take photos three times. It has been mostly a cloudy day. It rained in the morning but since then has only been cloudy, with the clouds moving to the north. I've watched them blowing by all day and was surprised to get a glimpse of the sun late in the day.

At 7:06 pm the sky was quite dark and foreboding with just a hint of sun.

By 7:16 pm the sky was lightening up and beginning to glow.

And finally, at 7:23 pm...this...

How fortunate I am to live here on the edge of the Pacific.

The sky here is so beautiful so often.

I've always thought of skies like this with the light streaming through the clouds as a "God Is Coming" sky.

Saturday was a cloudy/sunny day and the sunset did not have as much colour. It was warmer overnight and I woke very early (5 am) Sunday morning to the sound of rain on the roof, though it didn't rain for long.

The Next Sunset...both taken the same evening. No matter what happens during the day, there is always this to look forward to.

Tuesday, February 17, 2009

I finally managed to get a sunset photo on my fourth evening in my new house. The problem was that I couldn't find my camera. Figured out where it was today, so I was prepared and waiting when the sun started to hide behind the Vancouver Island mountains.

The point of land in the foreground is Texada Island and the mountains in the distance are on Vancouver Island. Notice the ferry boat which is heading over from here to Comox.

Though it had been a dry grey day, the sun broke through around 4 in the afternoon. The photos were actually taken from my second floor bedroom balcony.

I've moved from a sunrise to a sunset...from facing North East to facing West. More beautiful sunsets to come, I am sure!

This year, for Christmas, I gave myself a puppy. Here's Sophie at just under three pounds and about three months old. She is quite a character and keeps my five pound adult dog Willie on his toes! A couple of days ago she was almost having a swim in the water bowl. She had her face in it up to her eyes. That wasn't enough though. She then got both front feet in and started to splash water out of the bowl. I can hardly wait for warmer weather when I can take her for a swim in the ocean!

These photos were actually taken January 16th at sunrise. It was so beautiful and the poor weather it usually predicts never developed.
